When taking a photo of a woman here are some things to put on the To Do List:
- Do choose clothing that is solid in color. Stay away from stripes, floral, and other distracting patterns.
Do stay with earth tones such as white, black, wine, rust, blue, emerald, etc. and not yellow, orange, or bright red. Bright colors might look good but the brightness is a distraction. Just imagine someone seeing the photo and all they see and comment about is the bright orange dress. Never once mentioning how beautiful the person in the dress is.
- Do ask that she accentuate her beauty with a little make up. Not a lot but whatever she would put on to go out to a formal dinner. By the way, if she has blue or purple eye shadow accidentally throw it in the toilet and after apologizing offer to buy her new eye shadow. This time buy earth tones such as browns and tans to complement her skin. The ladies at the makeup counter of Macy and Dillards will help you and she'll feel so special.
- Bring her to the local park about 30 minutes before sunset when the sun is weak. Leonardo da Vinci called this the Golden Hour. Personally I like the last half hour. At this time of day the light is soft and it will make her skin glow. Without the bright noon day sun to squint her eyes you'll capture the color of those beautiful eyes. The windows to the soul. Choose a simple backdrop that is not busy and hopefully without other people in it. Get close.
- Apply the Dominant subject rule. The Dominant Subject Rule states that your subject should take up about 70 percent of the image area. Then, leave a little foot room and twice to three times the amount of headroom. This will result in a perfect balance of subject and space. Unfortunately, we all tend to slouch sometimes. If you see that she is, don't tell her. Otherwise you'll be wearing those three inch heels on your forehead. Tactfully ask her to sit up if she is seated or if standing that she through her shoulders back. She'll get the message and love you for it.
- Lastly, get ready to take the photo. Put the camera to your eye and your finger on the trigger. Timing is everything. Now, tell her how beautiful she is. As she instantly reacts push the release on the camera to snap the photo. Women are a lot quicker than us men so she might react with a great expression before you even finish your sentence so make sure you are ready. Take three or four in succession just in case.
Now go to the photo lab and get an enlargement, frame it, and present it to her with a rose on Valentine's day. Oh yeah, life is good.
